Entertainment, Advice, The Average Joe, and of course my own personal woes... What will I talk about? Who knows? I've decided that I need a larger space to record my countless rants. Like to hear it? Here it goes...

Hateration! The 8th Deadly Sin.

We're human! We love to share our triumphs with friends and family as well as our downfalls. Oddly enough, we are often blindly optimistic when believing those we put our faith in as a pal and  a confidant...really have our best interest at heart.

Newsflash people! It's not the rolled eyes of a passerby as you cruise down the street in your 2010 BMW, nor the faint whispers of "bitch" from your co-workers as you bustle to your desk with your new Louis Vuitton "Damier" shoulder bag in tote. No no no... they're not the ones you should worry about. It's those toxic bastards who we let infiltrate our worlds. Thats right folks!!! They normally rear their heads in the form of friends, family and even lovers.

Hateration often festers and thrives amongst those who are too afraid to make moves for themselves in life, so they are insanely jealous and envious of those who strive for more... and need we say have more/outperform the "hater."  Like crabs in a barrel they'll attempt to hold you back with negativity. Misery loves company! These HATERS love to relish in your downfalls. When you are doing well, they are secretly waiting for you to fall.

The most important thing is to quarantine these diseased people.  First! You mustn't be naive. Recognize those who aren't genuine. I'll will give you one my favorite quotes by Maya Angelou, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them!" No matter how fake or phony, a person will always show their true colors. It's up to you to believe them and haul ass, or stick around and get kicked in the ass. The choice is yours! Second and most importantly... either rid yourself of the toxicity or deal with them with a long handled spoon.

We are all guilty of jealousy and envy. I certainly am! I will tell someone to their face that I am jealous/envious, but that doesn't mean that I hate them for having something I would like. Saying, "I wish it were me," isn't hating. However, trying to knock the person down because they have what you desire is the true sign of a Hater. They'll also be the first to exclaim, "I'm not jealous! What do I have to be jealous of?"

I "hate" on celebrities etc., because they have what is far from easily attainable to the average Joe. Hell, my eyes have watered up watching MTV Cribs. Hell yes I want a Lamborghini Murcielago and I will call the filthy rich person I see with one, a lousy fucking bastard! While I am not condoning my thoughts/behaviors, there is a huge difference when you hate on average people who don't have anything you aren't able to achieve yourself. It's even worse to consider yourself close to someone all the while harvesting ill feelings towards them.

We need to start becoming more conscious of our thoughts when they're toggling on the line of hateration. Rather than hating, use that energy as a source of inspiration and motivation to propel yourself to new heights, rather than marinating in stew of hate and misery. You can't achieve when you are too invested in what someone else is doing or what they have. Work on being the best that you can be and the rest will fall in place. If not... you'll only find yourself in the same stagnate pool of shit you've been standing in while the person you're hating on is moving on.

As for the victims of hateration, use your haters as fuel to go further and smell better. After all, they're your biggest fans... so make like Bonnie Raitt and "give 'em something to talk about."

In the words of Barbra Streisand, "Don't tell me not to live, just sit and putter. Lifes candy and the sun's a bowl of butter. Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade."

KFC Racist?

The following Australian KFC commercial has raised claims of racism:

The KFC "Cricket Survival Guide"... A white man in the center of a rowdy group of black cricket fans. The solution to this "awkward" situation? A bucket of fried chicken... "Too Easy!"

KFC Australia claims that the commercial was misunderstood by Americans, as they do not share the same culturally based stereotypes as the U.S.

The company stated, "It was a light-hearted reference to the West-Indian cricket team." No further explanation was provided as to the details of the West-Indian "reference." However, KFC assures their commitment to diversity and offers their apologies while removing the advertisement from Australian TV.

What are your thoughts? Do you think the ad is racist? Please comment below.

Happy New Year!!!

This year I intend to re-group, re-think, re-imagine, and most importantly re-invent.  Talk is cheap! Thus, I'm just going to work on me. Others will only know what I am doing once it is done. I certainly believe that given the opportunity people will try to drag you down (like crabs in a barrel)... even if not consciously.

The power of the mind is a great force. It is essential to free yourself of toxicity which may come in the form of friends, family, foes, or those unknown. Oprah says it best..."Surround yourself with people who can lift you higher."

We only have one life to live, so live out loud. Live your life for you and no one else. Allowing others to influence the way we live our lives will render us powerless.

"They can say, anything they want to say. Try to bring me down, but I will not allow anyone to succeed hanging clouds over me... I refuse to falter in what I believe or lose faith in my dreams" ~ Mariah Carey

The following song is going to serve as my theme for this new year and new decade:

The Face of Abuse

For those of you who missed the 20/20 Diane Sawyer/Rihanna interview, I have embedded the videos below... Before I discuss my views on abusive relationships, and the Rihanna/Chris Brown fiasco please read the poem below:

A Kind of Love, Some Say
~Maya Angelou
Is it true the ribs can tell
The kick of a beast from a
Lover's fist? The bruised
Bones recorded well
The sudden shock, the
Hard impact. Then swollen lids,
Sorry eyes, spoke not
Of lost romance, but hurt.
Hate often is confused. Its
Limits are in zones beyond itself. And
Sadists will not learn that
Love, by nature, exacts a pain
Unequalled on the rack.

I decided to write about abusive relationships and in particularly post this poem because I feel there are so many women out there that have been victims of domestic violence. One of the very first episodes of Oprah's new season showed a woman who was the recipient of a face transplant after having her face shot off by her husband (Picture: top left). Unrecognizable of her former self, she stated she had thoughts about going back to her husband after her near death experience.

Rihanna (pic: upper-right) revealed during her interview, there had been several instances of abuse prior to the final and very publicized occurrence. If I had to guess, a man will almost never haul off and beat a woman the way Chris Brown did, as a first time occurrence. Abuse tends to start off verbally and gradually increases to various stages of physicality (shove, slap, etc.).

A few weeks ago I conducted a small poll on domestic violence. Of those that responded, approximately 60% had been abused or knew someone who had been a victim of domestic violence.

Sadly, one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. While men are occasionally victims, 85% of domestic violence victims are women. However, most cases are never reported to the police. (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence/ncadv.org)

A strong, confident woman is much more likely to rid herself of a toxic situation. The weaker woman is one who almost always has low self-esteem, thus finding herself back in the same situation. In the 20/20 interview, Rihanna touts about her strength to Ms. Sawyer, but I beg to differ. It took "8 or 9 times" for her to escape an abusive relationship. In fact, she didn't initially define the previous occurrences as abuse, being that they weren't as violent. It was almost as if she was still trying to protect him...

Sawyer: "He repeatedly shoved you into a wall."

Rihanna: "No he didn't repeatedly shove me into a wall."

Sawyer: "What happened?"

Rihanna: "He shoved me into the wall."

Regardless to whether it was "repeatedly" or not, you were in fact shoved into a wall... and that is in fact abuse/domestic violence. Three weeks after that violent attack, Rihanna found herself back with Chris Brown. Although it certainly took a lot of strength for her to call it quits, I think the Bajan beauty has a long way to go before she is able to personify a strong, empowered woman. After all, when asked if she could see herself with Chris in the future... she mentioned that she isn't God, thus unable to see into the future.

Finally, we need to stop blaming the victim. With such ignorant comments as, "what did she do to provoke him," it is no wonder as to why this crime often goes unreported. Abuse in any form is about power and in this society that power is undeniably and inherently, male privilege.
The following is the 20/20 video clip.
